Potong

Bangkok, Thailand

Potong is a modern Sino-Thai restaurant in Yaowaraj, Bangkok's Chinatown, opened in 2021. Chef Pichaya "Pam" Soontornyanakij runs it in the five-storey building where her family long kept a Chinese herbal medicine pharmacy.

Food & Wine ranks Potong No. 5 in its Global Tastemakers 2026 list of the best global restaurants. The magazine praises 20-course tasting menus that pair Chinese staples such as dried scallop, salted egg and rose dew wine with Southeast Asian flavours like Thai curry and pandan.

One course reimagines pad Thai as a single tiger prawn poached in prawn oil and wrapped in a flat rice noodle striped in the colours of the Thai flag. The upper floors house the sister venue Opium Bar, serving cocktails, Thai wines and whiskies. Food & Wine adds that Soontornyanakij is known from Top Chef Thailand and runs Women for Women, a scholarship and internship programme with the American Women's Club of Thailand.
