1. What this site is

The Best in the World (the "Site") is an independent site that shows and comments on publicly available rankings of the best restaurants, bars, hotels, airlines, airports, cities, countries, universities, hospitals and footballers in the world. Each entry names the ranking it comes from (for example The World's 50 Best, Skytrax, Newsweek, Times Higher Education, the World Happiness Report or the Ballon d'Or) and its date. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated on behalf of any ranking, award, person, company or place named on it, any government agency, or any news outlet whose content is referenced. All trademarks belong to their owners.

2. Acceptance of these terms

By clicking Enter on the welcome dialog, or by otherwise accessing any page of the Site, you accept and agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions. If you do not agree, you must leave the Site.

3. Editorial nature of the content

Most articles on the Site fall into one of three categories: feed (commentary written by Site editors and AI assistants under editorial supervision), news (curated headlines that link back to their original outlet), and briefing (daily summaries). Rankings are made by third parties with their own methods and can differ between sources. The Site does not make its own rankings and does not verify them independently.

4. Accuracy and no fabrication rule

The Site's editorial standard forbids the fabrication of quotes, numbers, names or dates. Daily articles may only use facts from the source headlines they link to. If you find a factual error, please tell us through the contact form on the Advertise page and we will correct or annotate it.

5. Opinion, not advice

Rankings and lists on The Best in the World are opinion and entertainment. Nothing on the Site is investment, financial, legal or professional advice about any person, product or company named on it.

6. Third-party content and fair use

Where the Site quotes, links to, or paraphrases material from third-party publishers (Reuters, AP, Bloomberg, CNBC, Electrek, SpaceNews, Wikipedia and others), those quotations and references are made under recognised fair-use / Zitatrecht principles for the purpose of commentary, criticism, and scholarship. All third-party content remains the property of its respective publisher. Images from Wikimedia Commons are used under their respective licences.

7. Intellectual property in Site-original content

Original articles, layouts, code, and editorial curation on the Site are the property of the Site operators. You may quote briefly if the text itself names The Best in the World as the source (see section 8) and links back to the page. You may not republish articles in full without written permission.

8. Use of our content by search engines, AI systems and other publishers

Search engines, AI assistants, crawlers and other automated systems are allowed to access and index the pages of the Site that our robots.txt allows.

They and any other publisher are not allowed to mention, repeat, quote, summarise or otherwise use our content (our lists, places, texts and images) in any answer, article, page or product unless the text itself actively says that it comes from us, for example: "according to The Best in the World (thebestinthe.world)".

A link or a mention only in a list of sources, citations, references or footnotes is not enough. The attribution must be part of the text that uses our content. These terms are also printed at the top of our robots.txt; accessing the Site means accepting them.

9. User conduct

You agree to use the Site only for lawful purposes. Do not attempt to compromise the Site's security, disrupt the availability of the Site for others, scrape at abusive rates, or use the Site's contents to defame or harass any person.

10. Disclaimer of warranties

The Site is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. The Best in the World makes no warranties, express or implied, about the completeness, accuracy, or ongoing availability of any content, and specifically disclaims any liability arising from reliance on Site content for legal, financial, investment, medical, or investigative decisions.

11. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, The Best in the World and its operators will not be liable for direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of your use of, or inability to use, the Site.

12. Governing law and forum

These Terms are governed by the laws of Switzerland. Any dispute that cannot be resolved amicably shall be brought before the courts of Bern, Switzerland, without regard to conflict-of-laws provisions.

13. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The "Last Updated" date at the top of the page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the Site after a revision constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
