Matsukawa

Minato City, Japan

Matsukawa (松川) is an invitation-only kaiseki restaurant in Akasaka, in Tokyo's Minato City, Japan. It has served traditional Japanese multi-course cuisine from its Akasaka address since March 2011, and tables are given only through referral.

La Liste (Paris) ranks Matsukawa No. 1 in its Top 1000 for 2026, among the restaurants scored 99.5 points, and it has also been listed among the World's 50 Best Restaurants. In Japan it won the Tabelog Award 2026 in Gold, an honour En Primeur Club says it has held every year since 2017, which makes it one of the most consistently recognised kaiseki addresses in Tokyo.

The meal is served at a plain wooden counter, and En Primeur Club counts 22 seats in all. The food writer behind I'm Still Hungry recalls a first course that seemed to be just a cup of water until the first sip released a faint scent of cherry blossom, and describes a restaurant that many lovers of Japanese cuisine regard as the country's finest. Payment is by cash only.
