Bar Kismet

Halifax, Canada

Bar Kismet is a restaurant and bar in Halifax, Canada, the largest city in the Atlantic provinces. It was founded by Annie Brace-Lavoie and Jenner Cormier, who met while working at Bar Raval in Toronto.

Food & Wine ranks Bar Kismet No. 5 in its Global Tastemakers 2025 list of the top 15 international restaurants. The magazine credits its house-made pastas, coastal-inspired drinks and its showcase of Atlantic Canada's seafood, and calls it a model of sustainability in hospitality.

Brace-Lavoie's menu changes weekly and draws on Mediterranean and French regional cooking. Dark wood, white beadboard, milk-glass lamps and potted plants give the room a relaxed, retro feel somewhere between a grandmother's dining room and a French farmhouse inn. The cocktail list shows the alcohol content of every drink, and the nine-seat counter makes it a destination bar as well.
