Mangal II

London

Mangal II is a Turkish grill house in London's Dalston neighbourhood that has served locals since 1994. It is the second restaurant of founder Ali Dirik and is now run by his sons Ferhat and Sertaç Dirik.

Food & Wine ranks Mangal II No. 9 in its Global Tastemakers 2025 list of the top 15 international restaurants. The magazine explains that its no-frills, traditional cooking has evolved in recent years and won over locals, visitors and critics.

Dirik's first restaurant, Mangal Ocakbaşı, opened in 1991; in Turkish a mangal is an open charcoal grill, which here sits at the centre of the room. The brothers spent time at 108, the sister restaurant of Noma. Food & Wine mentions ezme salad, vine leaves stuffed with crab, lamb sweetbreads with pomegranate molasses, and Cornish hen with apricot pilaf.
