Luxembourg (the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg) is a small landlocked state in Western Europe, bordered by Belgium, Germany and France. With 2,586 km² it is Europe's seventh-smallest country, and it had 696,268 inhabitants in 2026, almost half of them foreign nationals. Its capital, Luxembourg City, is one of the four institutional seats of the European Union.

The 2026 edition of the World Happiness Report, published by the Wellbeing Research Centre at Oxford with Gallup and the UN SDSN, ranks Luxembourg No. 9, with a life evaluation score of 7.063. It was also No. 9 in the previous edition, with 7.122.

Luxembourg City hosts several EU institutions, including the Court of Justice of the European Union. Luxembourgish is the national language, French is used for legislation, and German is also used in administration. Headed by Grand Duke Guillaume V, Luxembourg is the only remaining sovereign grand duchy in the world.
