Denmark

Denmark is a Nordic country in Northern Europe and the most populous part of the Kingdom of Denmark, which also includes the Faroe Islands and Greenland. Metropolitan Denmark is made up of the Jutland peninsula and 406 islands and lies just north of Germany, with which it shares a short border. It has more than 6 million people, and Copenhagen is the capital.
The 2026 edition of the World Happiness Report, published by the Wellbeing Research Centre at Oxford with Gallup and the UN SDSN, ranks Denmark No. 3, with a life evaluation score of 7.539. In the previous edition it was No. 2 with 7.521. The report breaks scores down by factors such as GDP per capita, social support and healthy life expectancy.
About 40% of Danes live on Zealand, the largest and most populous island. The land is mostly flat and arable, with sandy coasts, low elevation and a temperate climate. Counting the Faroe Islands and Greenland, the realm has about 1,400 islands larger than 100 square metres, of which 78 are inhabited.
