Shanghai Pudong International Airport (IATA: PVG) is the main international airport of Shanghai, China. It lies about 30 kilometres east of the city centre on a 40-square-kilometre coastal site in eastern Pudong and is operated by Shanghai Airport Authority. It opened on 16 September 1999 and took over from Shanghai Hongqiao as the city's primary airport.
Readers of Travel + Leisure voted Shanghai Pudong No. 9 among international airports in the World's Best Awards 2026, the magazine's annual reader survey. Other airports on the same top ten include Dubai International, Hong Kong International, Seoul Incheon and Tokyo Haneda.
Pudong is the main hub for China Eastern Airlines and Shanghai Airlines and an Asia-Pacific cargo hub for FedEx, UPS and DHL. With 3,778,331 tonnes of freight in 2024 it was the world's second-busiest cargo airport, and its 84,994,548 passengers in 2025 made it the busiest airport in China and the fifth-busiest in the world. Its satellite terminal, opened in 2019, is the largest stand-alone satellite terminal building in the world at 622,000 square metres, and the airport is linked to the city by the Shanghai maglev train.
