Hamad International (DOH)
DOHA, QATAR

Hamad International Airport (IATA: DOH) is Qatar's main international airport, located east of the capital, Doha, and home base of the national carrier Qatar Airways. Known as New Doha International Airport while it was being built, it replaced the nearby Doha International Airport and is one of the busiest airports in the Middle East. It is named after the former Emir of Qatar, Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
Travel + Leisure readers place Hamad International at No. 2 among international airports in the World's Best Awards 2026, with a reader score of 93.96. In Condé Nast Traveller's Readers' Choice Awards 2026, which are voted for by the magazine's readers, it ranks No. 6 among the world's airports with a score of 90.45.
Planning for the airport started in 2003 and construction in 2005; after a series of costly delays it opened six years later than first scheduled, on 30 April 2014, and Qatar Airways moved over fully on 27 May 2014. The site covers about 36 square kilometres, half of it on reclaimed land, and the design follows an oasis theme with wave-styled roofs and desert plants grown with recycled water. The terminal and concourses were designed by the architecture firm HOK. Inside, travellers find attractions such as The Orchard, a swimming pool, a wellbeing and fitness centre, a golf simulator, a spa, a Louis Vuitton lounge and an art programme.
