Munich

Munich Airport (IATA: MUC) serves Munich and the surrounding regions of Upper and Lower Bavaria in Germany. It lies 28.5 km northeast of the city near the town of Freising and is named after the former Bavarian Minister-President Franz Josef Strauss. It is a hub for Lufthansa.
Skytrax ranked Munich No. 9 in its World's Top 100 Airports in both 2025 and 2026. The passages from the Skytrax list are ranking tables and give no further comment on the airport.
The airport opened on 17 May 1992, the day after the old Munich-Riem Airport closed, and took over its codes. It is the second-busiest airport in Germany after Frankfurt, with 41.6 million passengers in 2024, and has two passenger terminals and two runways. Between 1995 and 2006 its annual traffic grew from fewer than 15 million to more than 30 million passengers.
