Yale University, a private Ivy League research university, is located in New Haven, Connecticut, in the United States. Congregationalist clergy of the Connecticut Colony founded it in 1701 as the Collegiate School, which makes it the third-oldest institution of higher education in the US. It has fifteen constituent schools, including Yale College, the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and Yale Law School.

U.S. News & World Report ranks Yale No. 8 in Best Global Universities 2026-2027, up from No. 9 in 2025-2026. CWUR's 2026 edition places it No. 9, with 6th place for education, and Times Higher Education ranks it No. 9 in 2027 after No. 10 in 2026.

Yale granted the country's first PhD in 1861 and organised itself as a university in 1887. Its endowment was valued at $44.1 billion in 2025, and its library holds more than 15 million volumes. As of October 2025, 72 Nobel laureates had been affiliated with Yale, and its alumni include five US presidents and 19 Supreme Court justices.
