The Peninsula Chicago stands at the corner of East Superior Street and North Michigan Avenue, on the Magnificent Mile in Chicago, Illinois. It belongs to The Peninsula Hotels of Hong Kong; parent company Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels took full ownership in late 2009.
La Liste places it among the ten hotels that share the top spot in its 2026 world ranking, each scoring 99.5 out of 100. Earlier honours include Travel + Leisure's No. 1 hotel in Chicago in 2017 and No. 2 hotel in the United States from U.S. News & World Report in 2018.
Designed by Elkus/Manfredi Architects, the 339-room hotel was completed in 2001 and echoes the group's Hong Kong flagship, from its wing-like layout to the Chinese marble lions at the Superior Street entrance. Restaurants include Shanghai Terrace, Pierrot Gourmet, The Lobby and Z Bar. The fitness centre fills the top two floors, where a 25-metre pool looks out over Lake Michigan, and the spa won Spa Finder's Best Urban Spa Hotel in 2007 and 2008. The mezzanine holds the Sky Rink, the city's only hotel ice rink.
