Temwa Chawinga is a Malawian professional footballer, born on 20 September 1998. She plays as a forward for the Kansas City Current in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) and for the Malawi national team. She is the younger sister of footballer Tabitha Chawinga.
ESPN ranked Chawinga No. 5 in its top 50 women's players of 2025, The Guardian sixth and the IFFHS seventh, and she is on the 2026 Ballon d'Or Féminin shortlist. ESPN pointed to back-to-back NWSL MVP awards, a first in league history, and back-to-back Golden Boots, calling her "the ultimate cheat code" on the counterattack. It also noted 15 goals in 2025 despite injury and a league-leading six game-winning goals.
Chawinga joined her sister at Swedish club Kvarnsveden in 2017 and later won four straight Chinese league titles with Wuhan Jianghan, finishing 2023 as the world's leading scorer. In her first NWSL season in 2024 she set the single-season record with 20 league goals, and in 2025 she led the Current to the NWSL Shield. With Malawi, whom she first represented in 2016, she won the country's first COSAFA Women's Championship in 2023.
